March 19th-21st HD-DSLR Workshop in D.C. Area (If you still want to sign up and tell MBS you came from theC47, I'll make sure they honor the early bird special which expired over the weekend).

No time for CC this go around. Looking a bit pasty (what else is new). You'll also notice that the AWB really kicks in when I turn on the Alzo 770L. Not usually on but this was a quick set up.

Question about the time limited clips on these HDSLRs. If you're recording past the 12 minute mark, say in 1080 mode, does the camera just stop? And you have to press start again? Or does it continue and just make a new clip. If it does continue recording and makes a new clip, is it gapless? Or do you lose frames or seconds of footage.

Hi Jem, I had to do some research and your right it's a 4:2:0 8bit, I am amazed since I took it for granted that it was 4:2:2. Good point but then again it's the final quality that counts n'est-pas? I've hear that using the HDMI output would be in the 4:4:4 range true?

Keep up the good work and again congratulations on your commitment to the program!
Cheers

It stops. You need to start it again.

It's actually a 4GB per take limit which translates into approximately 12 minutes.

Frank,

HDMI out on the 5DMKII is 1080i when not recording and on playback. 480p when recording. The 7D is 1080i all the time.

It's a scaled output on both. Not ideal.

We think it's 4:2:2, but not sure. Definitely not 4:4:4

Hi Jem

As per usual, loving the daily podcast.

I'm a little underwhelmed by the firmware update, not being able to see the levels while recording is disappointing and hard to figure out why....

Anyway, which do you recommend, the JuicedLink or the BeachTek..? Now the firmware is out and we all know what it can or can't do, its time for me to get one of these...

Your feedback always appreciated.

Cheers

Simon

Ron,

I just read about that. Hmmmm.

No problem here, but let's see what happens over the next few days.

Good thing you have the 7D!

Simon,

I really like the JuicedLink box, but I'm waiting to test the new Beachtek stuff and also fro NAB. If you can wait, I would hold out a couple of weeks and see what's announced.

Thanks for posting this. I have been doing tests with the microphone inputs over at my site and might want to try your setup.

No problem Dave. I'll be getting the DT454 soon and will do an episode on my findings.
