I think film students will be wetting themselves over this. It kind of grates a bit that while we 5D MarkII owners are still waiting on the firmware upgrade, the local school kids can get one of these with their pocket money. My granny will probably get one and be saying 'I don't know what it does but it shoots 24,25, 50 and 60 fps, whatever that is'. I'll hide her false teeth for that. I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do though. Might be a handy second camera for when you can't be bothered lugging my 5D around. I've got got a 5D markII and I'm jealous. How does that work?
While I wouldn't say 800 US is pocket money for a college student, it is a great value. While I'm happy with my Pany GH1 and look forward to the GH2, it's great that people will have options for bodies under 1k.
Hi Jem, Off topic question : I just got a led600+softbox and 256 from coollights. I wanted to ask, do you use their filters on these videos ? 1/2 minus green or 1/4 ? And how come you don't eye blink, these lights are strong, even with the softbox. doesn't it damaged your sight ? it's my first time using studio light... Vincent
If it's in my pocket it no coming oot! I've started buying clothes without pockets, that's how tight I am. I'm thinking of just having no money at all just so I definately can't spend it. Hows that for tight? I was sort of meaning in relation to the higher end models that already have HD included. Compared with the 7D and upwards it's pocket money and if the results are half decent then a no-brainer to boot. I just wish I had some pocket money.
Thanks for posting these gearboxes every day. If nothing else they inspire me to work hard every day. I have a hard enough time just showing up for work every day...
Another Cool Lights question. So I've got one spot LED600 i'm using with a softbox for my key, reflector for the fill and the LED255 for my rim light. Love 'em. I need to get another LED600 when they are back in stock, so what do you think are the advantages of getting a LED600 flood opposed to the LED600 spot for a fill light. Would having another spot with a soft-box give me more flexibility than a flood, or is the flood the way to go for a fill?
I just got the T2i last week, I'm definitely having to get used to it, but I love what I'm seeing so far. I'm graduating from high school this May and I plan on majoring in TV/Film this fall. I'm hoping this camera will treat me right during college. I definitely need a good tripod for it though. Any suggestions?

James is from Scotland. If he says it's pocket money, we HAVE TO believe him. Scots are a bit tight with their money so it must be true :-)

Vincent,
I use the 1/2 minus green all the time. You might want to add the 1/4 as well to the 256. Mine skews pretty green.
Blink? I am a Cyclon.
Enough said.
Enjoy the lights and get a light meter if you don't have one and are shooting with a DSLR.

James...

T,
I would definitely get the flood. More options. I also find that with the softbox it gives little less output but more of a spread.
I use the spot as a fill more than the flood.
Cool?

Great day for canon, sad day for the t1i users !
I paid that 800$ less than 9 month ago, to get my t1i. We are still the only one in the familly of Video dslr stuck with full auto mode in video.
Let's just hope for a firmware update
Jem,
LED600 flood, i'll get it.
Thanks again for your help.

Austin,
I'm partial to Miller (DS20 & Compass 15), but you can check out this new one from Libec if you're on a tight budget...

Just released. Call Abel Cine Tech in NY. They have one on the floor and can give you a price.
