careful with spike tape. Especially the cloth backed (gaf) version. The glue dries out and leaves nasty residue after a year or two...turns to acidic dust that creeps into tiny places....
You can use a less destructive paper tape in day glo colors available in good art supply houses...maybe grip houses carry it too...but make a distinction for yourself and reserve use of the cloth backed stuff where you have high traffic-paper stuff the rest of the time.
Other issue is the glue on gaf tape. If it lays on carpet for more than a few hours, a funky chemical reaction can take place and you run the risk of messing up industrial carpeting...cause all that stuff is made out of the same toxic junk...industrial carpet and gaf tape....and in time, it can morph into cosmic goop.
I use a 15 dollar Brother Label machine from Staples.....and who knows what petrochemical residue it will leave behind Only time will tell.
...all this and I didn't even have my coffee yet....from your heartland....in bonnie scotland....
