Hey Jem,

How do you know if you need an external video recorder? From what I can tell it depends on the delivery medium/changes made in post. If you're not doing anything to the footage and just uploading online will you see a difference? Is codec alone the way to tell?

Hey Rob,

As the FS700 is an AVCHD 2.0 camera, you top out at 28Mbps and are recoding a 4:2:0 image. That's great for the majority of stuff that most people shoot, including myself, but to get the most out of the camera an external recorder will need to be used.

I'm a huge fan of NOT being tethered and it's one of the reasons I love the C300 so much. No real advantage to external recording on the camera.
