BIG Canon Announcement! Read about it at FreshDV

Link to Official Canon Press Release

More details to come in the next few days but we're finally getting a peek into Canon's roadmap. Exciting!

There will be flames aplenty on the choice of MPEG-2 4:2:2 as the codec, especially on reduser.net

Looks like I know what I'll be talking about on tomorrow's gearbox :-)

I'll give you my take on the codec thing then and we'll have other stuff to talk about after Friday.

Jem, what are the settings you use on the H4N? I just got one in the fall, and as a wedding videographer I'm waiting for the 'season' to come back around to really run it through it's paces. I have used it for an interview or two, but I'd love to use the compressor/limiter on it so it's easier to shoot solo. Also, I'm assuming this setting would help me when I use the H4N plugged into a DJs board at a wedding reception. Any insight would be awesome!

I usually keep it in Stereo mode (4 channel if I also want to use the built in stereo mic). I also sometimes I use a mixer (Sound Devices 302), if I want more control on levels. There is a Compressor and Limiter in there. The limiter is engaged to help eliminate clipping. It would definitely help when plugged into a board.

Jem,

I love my mac...but can you perhaps discuss sometime a PC (!!!) workflow/solution?

Thanks,

Joe

Joe,

I'm hoping with this new codec announcement that I can start to focus on Premiere Pro as well. I do have it.
